City of Bel Aire

Single Stream Recycling Program

Bel Aire supports a City-wide recycling program. Residents are encouraged to recycle as much as possible to insure that resources can be conserved. Participation in the program is optional, but all residents have a recycling fee applied to their monthly utility bills

Residents who choose to participate in the recycling program will receive a tan recycling cart, similar to the blue trash carts. The recycling bags are no longer accepted.  Please do not put recycling bags in the carts.  All recyclable material can be placed directly into the tan carts.  It is encouraged that all residents rinse out recyclables before placing them in the cart, but there is no need to bag items or separate them.  Waste Connections has a process for separating all recyclables once collected.  Shredded paper is NOT acceptable.

If you have not received a tan recycling cart and wish to participate in the recycling program, contact City Hall at (316) 744-2451 to order a recycling cart.

A Change to the Recyclebank Program

We are revising the Recyclebank program to ensure we have the most accurate and simple way to reward our members for recycling. These changes will go into effect in May 2013. We're also always adding lots of new ways for you to earn points on

  • As long as you set out yoru recyling container, you'll earn points for recycling.
  • The amount of points will now be based on how much your neighborhood recycles, not your individual recycling in your recycling container. The more everyone recycles, the more points everyone get!
  • Watch for your points in the transaction summary you'll receive via e-mail.
  • Earn even more points by living greener-check out the Earn Points section to see how.

RecycleBank is a loyalty and rewards program that motivates households to recycle. RecycleBank is now being offered to customers within the City of Bel Aire. Every resident will receive a large 95-gallon wheeled recycling cart equipped with an RFID (radio frequency identification) tag. This RFID tag has a unique number and will associate your cart to your address. Simply place all of your recyclables (no sorting required) in your new cart. Waste Connections trucks have been retrofitted to read the RFID tag, weigh your recyclables and transmit this information to your personal Account, where you earn RecycleBank Points.

An average recycler has the ability to earn and redeem hundreds of dollars worth of rewards and discounts at local and national businesses each year. Currently, RecycleBank has more than 400 local and national reward partners dedicated to its mission to encourage communities and households to recycle. Local reward partners include the Sedgwick County Zoo, Green Lantern Car Wash, The Good Egg, and Jason's Deli to name a few. National partners include Coca-Cola, Dick's Sporting Goods, Bed Bath & Beyond, Friskies Cat Food, Sears, and many more!  Please log in at to set up your account and then add your address to get points for your curbside recycling. If you don't have access to a computer you can call 1-888-727-2978. YOU MUST ACTIVATE YOUR ACCOUNT IN ORDER TO EARN AND REDEEM REWARDS! When you register, you will receive 300 bonus points.

Disposing of Household Hazardous Waste

Bel Aire residents can dispose of old household chemicals and produces at the Sedgwick County Household Hazardous Waste Facility (HHW). Items that cannot be disposed of in the trash or recycle bin can be taken to the HHW Facility for proper disposal. Almost all chemical items from a residential house can be disposed of including: paint, aerosols, batteries, used oil, gasoline, antifreeze, pesticides, herbicides, garden chemicals, household cleaners, fluorescent bulbs, computers, and propane.

There is no charge for the use of the HHW Facility. This service is provided free to Sedgwick County residents to help prevent them from getting into the waste stream and polluting the environment. Businesses generating less than 55 pounds a month of hazardous waste are also eligible to use the Small Quantity Generator program at the Household Hazardous Waste Facility.
